Mid-American
Canoe & Kayak Race
Sunday, June 6

The historic Mid-Am hits the Fox River on June 6, 2010 for its 49th running, combining long-lived tradition with several new features.

Based on the success of last year's two-tiered race, the Mid-Am will again feature TWO race lengths - a 10-miler from St. Charles and a 6-miler from Batavia. Both races will finish at McCullough Park in Aurora with a post-race party and awards ceremony.

*NEW* for 2010: Discount rates available for groups of 10 boats or more. Each paddler in a designated group of 10 boats or more will receive $5 off his/her entry fee.

Scout groups, church organizations, paddling clubs, school teams, business outings ... ANY organized group can take advantage. Groups can even reserve their own heats (10 boats per heat go off every 4 minutes).

Corporate class: Enter your group into the team competition. The top five times from each group will count toward the team score. No limit to the number of team members. For example, a group of 15 boats could put forward their top five times, or split into three separate teams of five.

Shuttle upgrades: Due to the popularity of the free shuttle service, we'll be operating larger buses and running more of them between the start areas and finish line to better accommodate all paddlers. We'll also offer a pre-race signup for specific times to alleviate delays and over-crowding. Stay tuned for more details!

Timing upgrades: We're in the process of creating a backup plan to minimize the inevitable glitches and snafus that arise when timing hundreds of canoes and kayaks over a 10-mile stretch of river. Our dream? To never utter the phrase "technical difficulties" again!

From St. Charles: Beginning at Mount St. Mary Park (Route 31), heats of 10 launch every four minutes starting at 9 a.m. Three portages (Geneva, Batavia, North Aurora). Approximate race time 1 1/2 to 3 hours.

From Batavia: From the VFW on Route 25, heats of 10 launch every four minutes starting at 10:30 a.m. One portage (North Aurora). Approximate race time 50 minutes to 1 1/2 hours.

This is an amateur canoe race for paddlers of all ages and abilities, featuring 10 canoe divisions and 6 kayak divisions.

First-place awards will be given to the winners in each division for both races.
