The Fox Valley Park District invests significant resources – both human and financial – into a variety of projects every year to deliver premium recreational experiences to our residents, members, and guests.

These improvement projects include facility upgrades (inside and out), and improvements to our parks and trails. At times, work being performed by other agencies or municipalities impacts the District’s service, most commonly on our trail network.

Please find below a list of current projects, along with their status and anticipated completion dates. Forecast and scheduling updates will be added to this page as they become available.

Trail Closures

Illinois Prairie Path
The Illinois Prairie Path is closed and impassable at the intersection of Indian Trail and High Street due City of Aurora construction of traffic signals, a pedestrian and trail crossing, and other improvements along Indian Trail at High Street. Construction and the resulting Prairie Path closure is anticipated to continue at least through fall. No alternate route is available at this time.  Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2024

Fox River Trail West
Fox Metro Water Reclamation District is performing necessary utility work along the Fox River Trail West, though the trail remains open. Please use caution when navigating the trail as some areas have been temporarily placed back as “gravel patch.” Walk your bike in these areas and be alert for changing trail conditions. Permanent asphalt patches will be installed and turf restoration will be completed in the coming weeks.  Anticipated Completion Date: TBD

Virgil Gilman Trail
Kane County Department of Transportation is performing trail crossing improvements on the Virgil Gilman Trail at Montgomery Road between Jackson St. and S. Union St. causing the trail to be closed. No alternate bike route is available. Anticipated Completion Date: October 2024

Parks

Blackberry Crossing West Park
Blackberry Crossing West Park is a 17-acre park located in Montgomery. As part of the District’s Master Plan process, the Park District worked with the community and engineers to develop a phased approach to Master Plan implementation.  Phase I Improvements were awarded FY2023 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant (OSLAD) as part of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) funding in 2022. The Park District is applying for FY2024 OSLAD funding to complete implementation of the Blackberry Crossing West Park Master Plan.

Phase I Improvements include: a Playground with ADA accessibility, pickleball courts, multipurpose athletic fields, concrete game plaza, two shade sail shelters, an asphalt path, an asphalt parking lot with 30 total spaces (2 of which will be for ADA use), bike racks, and a pollinator habitat.  The Park District is seeking to complete the implementation of the Park Master Plan in Phase II with construction of a flush restroom building with drinking fountain and bottle filler, splash pad, half-court basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, asphalt trail extension, and concrete bag toss and ping-pong table plaza.

Construction of Phase I improvements is anticipated to begin in Fall 2023 with estimated completion in 2024.  If the Park District is awarded 2024 OSLAD funding for Phase II improvements, construction is anticipated to begin in Fall 2024 with estimated completion in 2025. As part of the grant requirements the District is seeking any comments relative to the Phase II improvements. Those can be sent to Fox Valley Park District, Attn: Jerad Campbell, Director of Operations at jcampbell@fvpd.net. Anticipated Completion Date: Phase 1: Fall 2024 / Phase 2: Fall 2025
